Last week Matt finds out that Annie is working in a saloon. He’s hell bent on getting her out of there, but she’s not cooperating. He wants to protect her from her step-family. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know his intentions and he hadn’t had the chance to talk to her. She gets sassy and he loses his temper. He threatens to turn her over his knee right then and there and she retaliates by kicking him in the shins. While he’s hopping around on one foot she dives under the table.

“I won’t let you take me home.” Her muffled pitiful voice floated up from beneath the table. “I ain’t going back to the Lazy D.”

Matt’s head thumped along with his shin. Threats wouldn’t work at this point if Annie believed he was bound and determined to escort her back to the Lazy D. He ran a hand down his face before he flipped up the red checkered tablecloth. His eyes nearly bugged out of his head. Holy shit! The little brat had a gun pointed right at him.
